Inabensa to build the Hadjerat Ennous - El Affroum II Transmission Line in Algeria

August 18, 2005

Seville, August 17 2005. Instalaciones Inabensa, a subsidiary of Abeinsa, head of Abengoa’s Industrial Engineering and Construction Business Group, has been awarded the contract for the turnkey construction of the transmission line linking the electrical power plant at Hadjerat Ennous with the city of El Affroun, both located in northern Algeria. Inabensa will undertake the project as a joint venture with Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios S.A.

The contract, worth more than ten million euros, was awarded by the Algerian electricity company Sonelgaz Transport d’Electricité (GRTE) as part of an eight-lot international tender for the construction of three 400kV lines and various 220 kV and 60kV lines. The aim is to extend and modernize northern Algeria’s electrical power network.

According to Alfonso González, Abeinsa´s Chairman, “With this project, Inabensa takes its place as one of the leading companies in the North African electrical energy transport sector.”

The project will include the topographical study, supply, civil works, raising, laying and commissioning of a 400 kV transmission line. It is also planned to install a 24-fiber fiber optic cable (OPGW) as a protection wire for the line. This will represent a great contribution to North Africa’s telecommunications system.

Algeria has now been added to Inabensa’s strategic expansion plans in the region. The company has already been present for many years in countries like Morocco and Libya, where it has executed several turnkey high voltage power line construction projects and low/medium voltage Rural Electrification projects.
