Madrid, June 8, 2005 – Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has signed a contract with RENFE (Spain’s national railway company) to design, supply and install automatic ticketing systems in the cities of San Sebastian and Seville. This project is a continuation of the plan to install automatic transport ticketing machines in suburban railway stations, which has already been completed in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Asturias and Cadiz.
Telvent will design a total of 53 automatic ticketing machines that comply with the necessary corporate identity, architecture and maintenance requirements for RENFE’s Suburban Railway Division. Telvent will utilize its extensive in-house research and development program to develop the computer software required to manage the communications between the ticketing machines and the respective control centers, enabling centralized and simultaneous updating of software for all machines that are controlled by the network, which will enhance the system efficiency for cost control and pricing.
Throughout this project, Telvent has made a continual effort in R&D&I applied to the development of equipment and software to meet the demanding technical and operational requirements of RENFE’s Suburban Railway Division, both for access control equipment and the ticketing machines that are covered under the terms of this contract. Moreover, Telvent will provide additional functionalities, which will enable efficiencies in the manufacturing of the machines, and the installation of these new systems, providing additional overall value for this installation.
According to Telvent’s chairman, Manuel Sanchez Ortega, “This project demonstrates RENFE’s trust in Telvent’s R&D&I processes and represents an important milestone in a strategic program that began back in 2001 with the implementation of the first prototype in Atocha station in Madrid.” “Our extensive experience in ticketing management systems for important transport operators in Spain such as Metro de Madrid, Metro de Bilbao, Euskotren, Metro de Barcelona, and RENFE, will allow us to implement this project in an extremely efficient manner by leveraging the technical synergies of these previously completed projects”
