Madrid, May 9, 2005 – Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, was awarded the Natural Gas SCADA Upgrade project by the Piedmont Natural Gas Company (Piedmont). Telvent will consolidate and upgrade Piedmont’s dissimilar pipeline control systems, resulting from its year 2000 acquisition of the North Carolina Natural Gas Corporation (NCNG), and its 50% equity interest in Eastern North Carolina Natural Gas Company, acquired in 2003. In addition to its latest technology SCADA platform, OASyS DNA, Telvent will also install components of its suite of advanced Gas Management Applications.
Piedmont’s total pipeline system serves the US states of Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Its system throughput for fiscal year 2004 totaled 201.3 million dekatherms. Telvent’s OASyS DNA will monitor and control the entire transportation and distribution pipeline network in the Piedmont service area.
The consolidation project will bring the control centers for the Piedmont gas transportation and distribution system into one location, and will combine the organization’s operational functions.
According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent’s Chairman, “The system and operational consolidation should help Piedmont realize significant cost savings, and improve the flow of information throughout the organization.”
Telvent was selected through a competitive bid and evaluation process and was awarded the contract based on the company’s cost effective, advanced technical solution, which combines a robust, secure, stable and scaleable platform with components of Telvent’s advanced gas applications suite.
