Telvent wins the first contract with a Traffic Administration in North America

April 19, 2005

Madrid, April 19, 2005 – Telvent (NASDAQ TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has signed a contract with Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation Ministry (AIT), for a ten years period, to provide, integrate and manage the Road Weather Information System (RWIS) for a series of highway systems in Alberta, Canada, for a total amount of more than eight and a half million euro. Telvent will help AIT better manage its winter highway maintenance by providing information on pavement and weather conditions, and the forecast of ice occurrence.

Telvent's solution will provide 75 Environmental Sensor Stations that include pavement and atmospheric sensors along the 3,400-Km (1,490-mile) provincial highway network. This network encompasses several East-West highways including a section of the Trans-Canada, numerous secondary connector roads, the high-traffic Calgary to Edmonton corridor, and two high-usage highways within each of these cities. The sensor system will monitor, analyze and report on current road surface and weather conditions in combination with forecast data, enabling crews to make informed decisions regarding maintenance.

Alberta Government sources state that road surface and weather conditions are contributing factors to an estimated 25% of traffic incidents on the highway between Calgary and Edmonton. According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Chairman of Telvent, "AIT and Telvent believe that this percentage can be significantly reduced with timely and accurate information to the required audiences. Telvent’s solution will increase road safety and travel efficiency by enabling rapid decision-making on critical activities such as de-icing and road clearing".

The benefits of RWIS are not only in road maintenance efficiency and traffic safety, but also in environmental protection, as timely and accurate data can reduce the unnecessary application of chemical agents and road salt. In addition, any reduction in chemical usage and reactive staff overtime will also result in cost savings.

Manuel Sánchez Orterga adds "Alberta is one of several provinces in Canada developing Road Weather Information Systems, and Telvent plans to offer its solution to the benefit of ground transportation and local environments across the country".

Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, is specialized in high value-added solutions for four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America and China.
