Abengoa Bioenergy has executed two contracts with Lyondell Chemical Europe in 2004 for a total supply of 22,000 m3 of bioethanol to the chemical plant at Fos-sur-Mer, France. The bioethanol delivered at Lyondell’s facility is produced by Abengoa Bioenergy from renewable agricultural crops at its plant in Cartagena. The first delivery was supplied in October 2004 and the second, in January 2005. The bioethanol was shipped from the port of Cartagena to the port of Fos also under the responsibility of Abengoa Bioenergy.
Abengoa Bioenergy will also supply in Q1 2005 additional 7,000 m3 from its plant in La Coruña to be delivered at Miro refinery in Karlsruhe, Germany. The bioethanol will be consumed by BP Oil for the manufacturing of ETBE.
The bioethanol produced at Abengoa Bioenergy facilities complies with the strict quality required in both ETBE plants at Karlsruhe and Fos. ETBE is a chemical product that is blended as a compoment of gasoline and provides environmental benefits.
With these supplies Abengoa is expanding its activities in Europe by increasing the supply of bioethanol to key customers abroad, and boosting its export activity in European market by demonstrating its capability to promote the creation of infrastructures and use of bioethanol in those European countries in which biofuels are emerging or being developed at present.
Abengoa Bioenergy is contributing to comply with the targets of the EU to develop a renewable and sostenible alternative to fossil fuel for transport, and to reduce the efect of greenhouise gases.
The strategy of Abengoa Bioenergy, as an industrial company leader in the manufacturing and commercialisation of bioethanol in Europe, is focused on entering into long term supply agreements which will represent an excellent opportunity to end-users in Europe.
