Telvent awarded a Toll Control and Management System contract in Ireland

January 25, 2005

Madrid, 25 January, 2005 -Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, has been awarded a contract by CINTRA, part of the Ferrovial Group, to supply the Toll Control and Management System for the N4-N6 Kinnegad Kilcock Motorway in Ireland for a sum of more than 2 million Euros.

The N4-N6 Motorway, running two lanes in each direction, will form part of an important 36 km. passage linking Dublin to Ireland’s Northwest region and it is expected to be open to traffic before November 2006. The scope of the turnkey Toll Control and Management System project includes system and applications development, as well as installation start-up, and will utilize SmartTOLL - Telvent’s latest generation Toll Management and Control System solution.

The system will be installed at a central station and at two lateral ramps, and will include a total of 22 collection lanes. The toll amount collected by the system will be based on vehicle class and not on the distance covered on the Motorway. A digital video system integrated into the Toll Control and Management System will also be installed. This system will allow the recording of any event which may impact the collection process, such as discrepancies or mistakes with vehicle classification, unauthorized transit, vehicles exempt from payment, etc. In addition to recording digital photos of vehicles, utilizing two cameras per lane, a third camera will automatically record vehicle license plates, using an OCR-type algorithm. These management support features will also allow for more efficient and more precise system auditing..

According to Manuel Sanchez Ortega, president of Telvent, "this new contract is highly significant because it supposes working in Ireland in the control and management of highways systems. We hope that this new area of business has the continuity that deserves".

The toll system will be capable of accepting all forms of payment, including cash and bank cards, and will feature both manual and automatic payment options. Tele-Toll will also be allowed as a payment method, enabling drivers to travel on the motorway without needing to stop at the Toll station.

The technological solution for integrating Tele-Toll or Dynamic Toll with the rest of the system will be based on the SmartTOLL product. Telvent will supply both the aerials and the device to be fitted to the vehicle, known as a transponder, tag, or OBU (On Board Unit). This solution complies with the European Standard CEN278, and is compatible with other systems installed in Ireland, which meet the GSS Work-group’s specifications and the protocol defined in the TIS Project.

Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, is specialized in high value-added solutions for four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America and China. (www.telvent.com)
