Telvent will supply the Rural Telecommunications Network in Mozambique for a sum of more than 8 million Euros

December 23, 2004

Madrid, December 22, 2004 —Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT) the Global RealTime IT Company, has signed a contract with the National Authorization Officer (NAO) for the Cooperation Mozambique agency operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, to supply, install, train and commission the Rural Telecommunications Network in the provinces of Gaza and Inhambane in Mozambique. The total value of the contract is over eight million Euros.

This project is included under the "Sixth European Development Fund of the European Union", as stated in the III ACP-EEC Lomé Convention, which includes African, Caribbean and Pacific states, and requires that all goods supplied by Telvent in the development of this project originate from one of these countries.

The Rural Telecommunications Network for voice application to be developed by Telvent will be deployed in the provinces of Gaza (75,709 km2) and in Inhambane (68,615 km2), and will provide telephone services to a population of more than 2.5 millioninhabitants. In addition, a centralized Network Management System (NMS) will be located in the province of Maputo, facilitating Operation & Maintenance activities.

Telvent will develop the project based on two communication systems. The first is based on a point to multipoint radio system in the 1.5 GHz frequency band, based on the DCRS (Digital Radio Concentrator System), using a central station, repeater stations and terminal sites with subscribers; the second one is a point-to-point microwave radio system in the 7 GHz frequency band, including Digital Multiplexers for subscribers. As no commercial power service is available, power will be supplied by solar panels.

According to Manuel Sánchez, president of Telvent, "the installation of this Rural Telecommunications Network will help the rural areas of these two provinces become integrated with the development of the country"

This is the second project to be executed by Telvent in Mozambique, consolidating Telvent’s position as a major Global IT provider in this emerging country of the African continent. The first project, now in development, involves the provision and installation of a meteorological system for the National Institute of Meteorology of Mozambique (UNAM).

Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, is specialized in high value-added solutions for four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America and China. (
