Telvent starts up the Digital City Project in Almeria

November 17, 2004

Almeria, November, 17th 2004 – Telvent (Nasdaq TLVT), the Global RealTime Information Technology company has commenced its landing in Almeria to start up the Digital City Project, after the contract was awarded on October 28th by the municipal plenary and will be ratified tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the signing of the implementation contracts.

The agreement with Telvent will have a 20-year duration and the contract totals 27.7 million Euros. Part of the services and infrastructures pending construction will be ready in eight months, in order to provide coverage for the XV Mediterranean Games, which will be held in the city of Almeria from June 24th next year.

The project contemplates the design, construction and operating of a Centre of advanced Digital Services which, according to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, President of Telvent “will place Almeria at the head of Spanish cities regarding Citizen-Related technological innovation, who will be the main beneficiary of a project based on enhancing services offered to him”.

In the space of two years, “Almeria’s City of Services” will be a global centre of solutions for administrative processes. Thus, it will offer solutions for territory management, procedures for Citizen Relation Services, payment systems, Relation Services for virtual communities, intelligent management of urban traffic, access control and support systems for urban transport operations, among others, and all this in an environment in which all Almerian citizens will be given a new identifying element, his own electronic signature. Additionally, the new model will enable the local administration to be operative twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

The digitalisation of services will not only be for those with access to a computer network, as the average citizen will be able to directly benefit from visible services throughout the city with panels offering useful information on routes and accesses, as well as a system of administrative and public information solutions through a Call Care centre.

“For this project, Telvent has created an individualised solution for the city of Almeria on an integral model of services, financially sustainable, providing qualitative enhancements to municipal services and, therefore, to the quality of life of the citizens of Almeria” according to Manuel Sánchez Ortega.

The technological heart of the City of Services will be located in El Toyo, in newly-built facilities which will control and manage the telematic services provided for both citizens and the Town Council as well as for the companies and institutions which will also benefit from this new technological platform managed by Telvent.

Telvent (Nasdaq TLVT), the Global RealTime IT company and subsidiary of Abengoa, is specialised in high added value solutions for four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in America, Spain and China. (www.telvent.com)
