Telvent is awarded a third major natural gas SCADA contract in Turkey

August 26, 2004

Madrid, Spain, August 26, 2004.- Telvent, the Global RealTime IT Company and subsidiary of Abengoa, together with its in-country consortium partners, Kale Kalip S.A. and SYS S.A., has been awarded the contract to supply an integrated, turnkey Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to the Electric, Gas and Bus Authority (EGO) in the Turkish capital city of Ankara. The amount of the contract exceeds 2.5 million Euros.

The project includes the installation of a fully redundant OASyS DNA SCADA system at the EGO Main Control Center. OASyS DNA will interface with EGO's GIS system to monitor and control the gas supplied by the national Petroleum Pipeline Corporation to the 18 High-Pressure Gas Delivery Stations, 214 Regulator Stations and 218 High-Consumption Customer Stations.

According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent's CEO, industry experience and reputation played a key role in being awarded this significant contract. "We have been installing industry-leading SCADA and information management systems around the world for more than three decades", he said. "In Turkey for example, the country's national gas and oil pipeline company has been using Telvent's OASyS technology to monitor and control Turkey's national gas transmission pipeline for nearly three years. We are now building the SCADA system for the Istanbul Gas Distribution and Trade Corporation (IGDAS). With this award by EGO, Telvent's commitment to the booming Turkish natural gas sector is further reinforced".

The project partnership includes Kale Kalip, the Consortium Leader, which is responsible for overall project management and station field instrumentation, and SYS, which is responsible for the supply and installation of the UHF telecommunication system, as well as the engineering, installation and commissioning of the station RTUs.

Kale Kalip's Gas Division produces gas meters under license from the Instromet Company, and imports large size diaphragm, rotary and turbine meters for the Turkish market.

SYS is a leading SCADA system supplier and integrator in Turkey, as well as a Technical Alliance Partner and authorized Value Added Reseller (VAR) for Telvent, which has lead to the realization of major independent and combined SCADA system projects in Turkey.

EGO (Electric, Gas and Bus Authority) is the utility owned by the Greater Ankara Metropolitan Municipality that distributes natural gas to more than 89,000 customers, of which approximately 218 are high-consumption consumers, including large office buildings, hospitals, universities and factories. Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, has a population of more than three million. In 2003, EGO supplied consumers approximately 1.2 billion m3 (42 billion SCF) of natural gas through its 355 km (220 mile) pipeline network.
