Telvent will provide the Control And Information System of Tunis Electric Network

Madrid, 22 April, 2004 - Telvent, the Global RealTime IT Company and subsidiary of Abengoa, has signed a contract in consortium with Iberinco, a turnkey project, with the Tunisian Society of Electricity and Gas (STEG) in order to automate and to modernize its electrical distribution network in six regions of the country. The total amount of this contract is 25 million Euros.

The project supposes the creation of six new centers of control, which will allow the management and the control of the electrical distribution in the zones of Tunis capital, North, Center, Northeast, South and Southwest. Also there will be necessary the installation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA OASyS) and the Distribution and Management System (DMS). These systems, based on the obtaining and integration of the information in real time, allow to optimize to make decisions, since its possible to know the network's conditions (tension, energy flows, temperature, etc.) at each moment and therefore to act consistent.

According to Manuel Sanchez, managing director of Telvent, "Unifying the information in real time between the company and the installations, besides a major comfort and cost saving, it will allow to maximize the quantity and quality of the electric power supply to the consumers".

This one is the first project that Telvent develops in this country, and a local infrastructure will be created, opening an office in the capital that will give support to the project, and at the same time it will be used as base to promote other business in the country electrical sector. Highlight the great importance of the project as for the direct benefits that it will generate for a the country population improving the energy service conditions in wide zones of the country as well as the development possibilities.

"Telvent has a long experience in this sector confirmed by similar projects, as the realized ones in Rio de Janeiro (Distribution and management System (DMS) for Ligth), or for the Bandug's Control Center (DMS) in Indonesia" Sanchez Ortega adds.

The company STEG belongs to the Industrial and Energy Ministry of Tunis. Created in 1962, this company administers the electrical and gas sectors by means of Electricity production, transport and distribution, and gas transport and distribution.
