Telvent is awarded the Trans Thailand Malaysia Gas Pipeline Project

April 15, 2004

Madrid, Spain April 15th, 2004 - Telvent, the Global RealTime IT Company and subsidiary of Abengoa, was awarded the Trans Thai-Malaysian (TTM) pipeline and gas separation plant projectlocated in Bangkok, Thailand. The Trans Thai-Malaysia Project is a joint venture between the Petroleum Authority of Thailand and the Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) of Malaysia. The project involves onshore and offshore pipelines that transport gas from the Malaysian-Thai Joint Development Area (offshore) to the Peninsular Gas Utilization pipeline at Changlun in Kedah, Malaysia. This linkage will mark a major step towards realizing the trans-ASEAN Gas Grid project.

Telvent will provide a Windows 2000-based OASyS DNA SCADA system for the safe operation of the pipeline and related facilities. The turnkey solution will include the Gas Measurement Applications (GMAS) modules of the Gas Suite to provide measurement collection, aggregation, validation and processing solutions. In addition, the Liquid Management System (LMS) will be installed to provide condensate management.

The SCADA system will reside on a completely redundant virtual LAN and provide realtime measurement and control. It will also provide Microsoft SQL Server-based infrastructure to handle historical data collection and management. The SCADA system will interface with PLCs to obtain field data. It will also provide gas information to a third-party pipeline leak detection system.

According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent's Chief Executive Officer, "The TTM pipeline and Gas Separation Plant present strong examples of the benefits of bi-lateral cooperation, as well as cost and reward sharing between nations. Transportation from the Joint Development Area helps both countries ensure adequate supply, benefiting industry as well as residential populations."

With gas reserves outnumbering oil three to one, Malaysia is increasingly turning to natural gas, not only as a source of energy, but also as a raw material for manufacturing petrochemicals.
