Telvent is awarded two new Traffic Control projects in Romania and Brazil

April 1, 2004

Madrid, 1 April, 2004.- Telvent, the Global RealTime IT Company and subsidiary of Abengoa, has won new contracts in the Traffic Control market, through projects such as that recently signed with the Romanian organism "National Administration of Roads-R.A." or the one awarded in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil.

In Romania, Telvent is responsible for the design, supply and installation and start-up of the Traffic Control, Toll and Communication System of the Bucharest- Constanza Motorway which, thanks to this system, will become the first motorway equipped with ITS technology (Intelligent Traffic System) in Romania. The project also contemplates the installation of a Control Centre through which the Odyssey system will manage the motorway operations.

Odyssey is Telvent's integral solution for the management of motorways and access-points to cities and radial corridors, which will enable an operating network of 304 SOS posts communicated via optical fiber, to keep users permanently informed via thirteen variable message panels, and at the same time constantly monitor weather and traffic conditions using a network of data-collection stations and weather stations. The motorway, more than 152 kilometers in length, will be permanently supervised by a television system with 24 cameras located along the stretch and at the most conflictive points.

In addition, the motorway incorporates a Toll Plaza with eight lanes which will allow both cash and electronic payment with credit cards or contactless cards. The project also contemplates the installation of a communications system which includes a corporate radio system and a communications trunk network with ATM technology that will connect the field equipment with the control centre.

According to Manuel Sánchez, Telvent's Chief Executive Office, "with this project, Telvent continues its activities in Romania in the area of Information Technologies and in doing so, consolidates its presence of several years in the Romanian markets of Energy and Traffic."

Brasil

In Salvador de Bahía, Telvent will implant a Real Time Adaptive Traffic Control System (ITACA). The system will signify a substantial improvement in Salvador de Bahía's traffic conditions and will situate this city at the forefront in Intelligent Traffic Systems and serve as a model for the installation of similar systems in other cities within the State of Bahía and States in the North of Brazil.

ITACA represents Telvent's integral solution for traffic management in urban areas, which controls traffic intelligently and in real time, whilst constantly adapting itself to traffic needs. This system will help improve the quality of life of the more than 2.5 million inhabitants of the city of Salvador, through improvements in circulation conditions, and by reducing congestion and pollution.

The Salvador de Bahía Project includes a Control Centre, tree hundred Traffic Regulators, twelve Area Centrals, traffic light material for three hundred intersections, CCTV system with forty TV cameras, fifteen Variable Message Panels and the maintenance of the system.

"With this project, Telvent has taken a big step forward with this Project in the Traffic and Transport sector in Brazil, where it has been operating since 1998 via its offices in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo and Belo Horizonte", adds Sánchez Ortega
