Telvent installs a Tunnel Control and Management System on the M-50 in Madrid

January 13, 2004

Madrid, 15 January, 2004 - Telvent, Abengoa's Information Technology subsidiary, has signed a contract with UTE Radiales (FCC - ACS - OHL - Sacyr) for the supply and installation of lighting for the M-50 tunnels and its entry-points, linked to the concessionary stretch (R3 - R5). The amount of this project overcomes 1,5 million Euros.

UTE Radiales is responsible for the construction of the R3 and R5 radials for the entry-points to Madrid and is formed by part of the Members of the Infrastructure Concessionary on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Radials R3 and R 5 are included in the program of highways of toll of the Plan of Infrastructures 2000 - 2007 of the Ministry of Promotion, which will modernize together with the M-50 the communications between Madrid and its peripheral municipalities, as well as the communication of the same ones will be facilitated.

Likewise, Telvent has been adjudicated the signal, safety and control systems for the M-50's false tunnel in the area of the R4 - Madrid Radial Highway - South, Infrastructure Concessionary on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works.

The system will be formed by a control centre and on site by the usual control systems for this type of Project; control of ventilation control, illumination, detection and protection against fires, signalling and traffic-signalling, data-recording and communications, closed-circuit television with automatic detection of incidents and loud-speaker system. The amount of the same one overcomes the 825.000 Euros

Based on this concept, Telvent realized the design and installation of the Control System of Maria de Molina's Tunnel, inaugurated in May, 2003, which with a total length of 2057 meters turned into the longest urban tunnel of Spain, provided with the most updated Systems of Security and Control.

Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Managing Director of Telvent, says: "In Telvent we have own technology and a great experience in this kind of projects, installations, starting up and maintenance of tunnelling control and security systems. Telvent develops Multi-tunnel Control Systems, designed with an opened criterion based on standard tools, capable of integrating systems already installed in tunnels which equipment need to be modernized or extended."
