The Focus-Abengoa Foundation launches the 1st Sustainable Business Award to recognise its most committed suppliers in the battle against climate change

November 29, 2010

  • The Foundation plans to use this award to publicly recognise suppliers that are developing or that have completed during the last year, original and innovative projects and initiatives that promote environmental benefits and that help to combat climate change.

Seville, 29 November 2010. The Focus-Abengoa Foundation has launched the first edition of the Focus-Abengoa Sustainable Business Award, which aims to publicly recognise the Abengoa suppliers that are most committed to sustainable development and combatting climate change. The award forms part of the activities of the Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change.

The Sustainable Business Award will be given to those suppliers that, through their actions, have actively contributed to sustainable development and are an example to other organisations, having developed or recently completed projects and initiatives during the last year to promote environmental benefits and which are outstanding for their “originality, innovation, scope and leadership”.

Anabel Morillo León, Director General of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation, highlighted the importance of this award, which “strengthens Abengoa’s commitment to sustainable development and the fight against climate change – a dedication that we want to encourage and promote among our suppliers”. Anabel Morillo León also emphasised the private sector’s responsibility, which it shares with government, “to promote and achieve economic development that does not have a negative impact on the environment or on people’s wellbeing. We want this initiative to recognise those companies that have already assumed this responsibility”.

There are two categories in the Focus-Abengoa Sustainable Business Award, one for small and medium sized companies (fewer than 50 employees) and another for large companies (with an employee headcount of 50 or more). Any company that has been a supplier to Abengoa and its subsidiaries in any country during the last twelve months can participate in the award, excluding those companies that, due to their nature, need to accredit their independence from Abengoa and its subsidiaries.

Suppliers that meet the requirements published in the terms and conditions of the award and that wish to submit their candidature, must send the application form to the headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation at the Hospital de los Venerables. The deadline for receiving applications is 14 January 2011.

The terms and conditions and the application form are available at the website award (sustainability.abengoa.com), and from the websites of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation (www.focus.abengoa.es), Abengoa (www.abengoa.com) and Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change (www.energiaycambioclimatico.com).

The Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change promotes, through public discussions, an open platform for the research, presentation and debate of ideas and results using any means that it believes to be appropriate at any given time based on the nature of the issues to be analysed. The Focus-Abengoa Foundation seeks to contribute to the debate on changing the energy model and supporting Abengoa’s business mission, which is to offer innovative solutions for sustainable development.
