Ecocarburantes Españoles granted 2014 COASHIQ award for occupational safety improvement in the chemical and related industries

July 9, 2015

The award was received on Ecocarburantes Españoles’ behalf by Safety Manager Mr Alejandro Sánchez Benzal and Operational Risk Management Officer Mr Francisco Martínez Galan.

On July 3, COASHIQ presented their Annual Awards for Occupational Safety Management in the Chemical and Related Industries at a ceremony chaired by Anna Fons, President of COASHIQ, María Dolores Limón, Director of the Spanish National Institute of Safety and Hygiene at Work (INSHT) and Juan Guasch, Director of the National Center for Working Conditions (CNCT) in Barcelona.

This year Barcelona was chosen by the Autonomous Commission for Safety and Hygiene at Work in the Chemical and Related Industries (COASHIQ) as the location for its annual award ceremony. The awards recognize the efforts of companies in the sector that achieved the most significant reductions in accidents in the workplace in 2014.

During the ceremony, which was part of COASHIQ’s 90th Technical Conference Meeting, the Director of the Institute thanked the Commission for their initiative in granting these annual prizes, which she deemed to be “necessary”. She underlined the importance of not only speaking about risk management when accidents occur and also wished to demonstrate her concern regarding the need to make progress in management integration and preventative culture at all levels of the company, placing particular emphasis on research into occupational diseases.

The COASHIQ awards underline the efforts of the health and safety departments of the companies that receive them and they are a clear reflection of the recipient organizations’ good work in reducing occupational accidents.

COASHIQ is a private non-profit business organization in the Chemical Industry, which brings together around 200 companies in, among others, the chemical, petrochemical, oil and pharmaceutical sectors. Generally speaking, COASHIQ’s objectives are to control, reduce and, if possible, eliminate damage to people, companies’ property and the environment.
