February 14th, 2020 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG/P:SM), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructures, energy and water sectors, received yesterday the visit of the King of Morocco Mohammed VI and his son the Crown Prince Moulay Hassan in the desalination plant that it’s constructing in Agadir.

This visit took place in the context of the presentation of the Maroc Vert Plan 2020-2030, promoted by the Agriculture, Sea Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests Ministry of Morocco to consolidate all the goals achieved in the last Green Morocco Plan, and which has as objective the modernization of the agricultural sector in the country. Besides the King and his heir, the appointment was attended by the minister of Agriculture, Sea Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests Aziz Akhannouch; the minister of Equipment, Transport and Logistic of Water Abdelkader Amara; the CEO of Irrigation of the Ministry of Agriculture Ahmed El Bouari; and the CEO of the ONEE (Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable) Abderrahim Al Hafidi, in addition to regional authorities.

The King Mohammed VI took the opportunity to give the starting signal (including the placement of the first section of the pipe) to the works of the irrigation network which will feed the plant, an irrigation network which is also a part of the project and will be used for the distribution of water to more than 15.000 ha of agricultural holdings in the region. Thus, the King was able to appreciate in a panoramic way all the works carried out in the Agadir plant, which are currently at the 65%.

The Agadir desalination plant, in Morocco, will be the largest plant designed for drinking water and irrigation. It will have a total production capacity of 275,000 m3/day, with the possibility to be extended to 400.000 m3/day. Abengoa will be responsible of the development of engineering and construction of the plant, as well as its operation and maintenance of it for 27 years.
