Water is a resource that is becoming more and more scarce. In fact, it is estimated that within 30 years, 50 percent of the world population will experience supply problems. Aware of the value of this resource, Befesa has focused an important part of its activity on the development of infrastructures needed for desalinating seawater, as well as treating and reutilizing urban and industrial wastewater.

The other pillar in its activities is the recycling of industrial wastes (aluminum, zinc, plastics). Apart from providing a clear example of Befesa's commitment to respect for the environment, it leads to a reduction in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions caused by the use of materials such as aluminum or zinc.

Abengoa's work has received recognition from various institutions for ensuring the balance between industrial and economic progress and conservation of the environment.
