Since the very beginning, Abengoa Bioenergy has focused its activities on obtaining and being able to offer real, viable solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels used in automobiles, as stipulated by the Kyoto Protocol. Abengoa is dedicated to the production and development of biofuels for transportation: bioethanol and biodiesel. The transportation sector is responsible for 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore Abengoa Bioenergy is committed to bioethanol and biodiesel, as they do not contain fossil fuels and reduce contaminating emissions by 85 percent.

Up until now, the most widely used raw materials for obtaining biomass were cereals and oleaginous seeds. New expectations from society and the desire to offer more efficient models have led Abengoa Bioenergy to research new raw materials, such as lignocellulosic ethanol, with more competitive costs.

With the aim of optimizing the use of natural resources, Abengoa Bioenergy has developed a protein-based animal feed (DDGS) obtained from part of the grain used as raw material in the production of biofuels.
