Focus-Abengoa Forum on Energy and Climate Change

In light of the certainty of climate change, fighting global warming through reduction in greenhouse gas emissions has become one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. This task necessarily entails a drastic change in the energy model, in both supply and demand.

Abengoa, which embraces as its business mission offering solutions for sustainable development, seeks to contribute, through the Focus-Abengoa Foundation and its Zeroemissions company, to the debate on changing the energy model. And it wishes to do so from a multidisciplinary approach covering technological and economic conditioning for utilizing clean sources of energy as well as institutional and political mechanisms leading to decisions by users and producers that are compatible with a sustainable energy model. For this reason, Abengoa set up this forum through its foundation, to serve as an open platform for research, exposition and contrast of ideas and results from research and debate. It encourages debate and seeks proposals for action in the face of climate change, approaching the need for drastic change in our energy model.

The following are among the activities organized as part of the Forum:

  • 2007 World Solar Power Conference, the first Forum activity, which took place October 24-26, 2007 at the Hospital de los Venerables in Seville. This conference, which brought top authorities in the solar energy sector together, focused on solar technologies for plants connected to electrical networks. This first edition was attended by scientists, engineers, representatives from centers for research and promotion of solar energy, construction and electric companies, and financial institutions from all over the world in order to analyze and debate key aspects of this fast-growing sector. Emissions generated due to the conference were neutralized through Zeroemissions.
  • School of Energy and Climate Change, in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), where teaching and training activities are developed on these subjects over a three-year period through yearly courses held within the framework of the academic curriculum of the UIMP in Seville and the Hospital de los Venerables, headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation.
