External Social Action

The company's commitment to society is also manifest in other activities and in different ways through the Focus-Abengoa Foundation. Since its creation in 1982, the Foundation has been integrated in the essence of the company, constituting the proactive instrument for administering its social work.

The Foundation's main aim is the promotion of the full range of artistic and scientific culture, with its priority being the conservation, dissemination and development of the historical and cultural heritage of Seville and its promotion throughout Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. The Foundation is also involved in social integration and re-integration projects, projects to cooperate in the conservation of the environmental heritage, and further activities linked to technological and social development, with a special focus on disabled persons.

Since 1991, the Foundation has been based at the Hospital de los Venerables Sacerdotes de Sevilla; a 17th-century historic-artistic monument donated by the Hermandad de los Venerables and the Seville archbishopric. Following a long and costly restoration process, not only of the building's architecture, but also of its paintings, sculptures, gold work, carvings, etc., Focus-Abengoa has been able to return this unique building to the city, ensuring that future generations will also be able to enjoy it. During this period, it has become established as one of the most complete and best-conserved testimonies of the Spanish Baroque heritage, emerging as a living center for the focus of proactive learning via multiple actions interlinked with the Foundation's aims.

Conservation and Maintenance of the Hospital de los Venerables

The most solid asset in the Foundation's custodianship is the building of the Hospital de los Venerables; and this also means that it has to monitor its intangible assets and respect for their authenticity as an intrinsic part of its work. Thus, responsibility for their maintenance and repairs is an essential part of the process of conservation of this real estate heritage. Every year, the most important lines for action consist of predicting possible deterioration of the architecture and its artistic elements, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, improvement or replacement of its technical and museum-based facilities in order to facilitate accessibility, use and enjoyment of the monument, and thereby definitively ensuring empathy with society.
