Abengoa commences works on its new HQ in Palmas Altas

Seville, April 30, 2007. - Today, the co-chairmen of Abengoa, Felipe and Javier Benjumea, attended the Palmas Altas Technological Center foundation stone laying ceremony. The new Abengoa HQ will allow the company to concentrate its activity in relation to the most advanced technologies, environmental excellence and sustainable development, in the city of Seville. Abengoa’s Technological Center, which has already received the work license from Seville Corporation’s Development Department to allow earthmoving works to commence, will be completed in the first half of 2009. With this project, an initiative jointly promoted by Seville City Council and the Torrecuellar Industrial and Logistics Center, Abengoa will take a giant step forward in developing the city of Seville’s economy: the Seville-based company is to invest almost 130 million euro in the city and its new head offices will provide more than 1,900 jobs.

Abengoa’s new HQ, to be located at the entry to the new Avenida de la Palmera expansion area, between the SE-30 ring-road and the future Cortijo del Cuarto urban area, will be constructed on a 42,000 square meter site and its edificability will be 50,000 square meters. The Technological Center will comprise seven (4 + 3) buildings / blocks (between 2 and 4 stories) grouped together around a central park and, of the total constructed surface area, 30,000 square meters will be occupied by Abengoa, 16,300 will be reserved to house other companies and institutions, and the remaining 3,700 square meters will be dedicated to common services which will include a kindergarten, restaurant, gymnasium, travel agencies, rest rooms, etc. In addition, Abengoa’s new HQ will have 1,300 underground parking spaces, landscaped areas and other relaxation and leisure areas.

The project has been designed by the team directed by the British architect, Richard Rogers, in association with the Spanish firm Vidal y Asociados Arquitectos, and with the collaboration of the Agrup engineering company. Richard Rogers, who has recently been awarded the 2007 Pritsker prize, considered the “Nobel” of architecture, is currently one of the world’s most prestigious architects. When designing Abengoa’s new HQ, this British architect has demonstrated how to truly combine the most advanced technology with concern for the environment and sustainable development, which are, precisely, the principles that govern the base of Abengoa’s business activity.

The design of the Palmas Altas Technological Center is similar to a sustainable and ultramodern technological campus equipped with latest generation environmental technologies that will contribute to minimizing electricity self-consumption: photovoltaic panels, a trigeneration plant, hydrogen cells, efficient climatization and illumination systems, etc. With this project, the Seville company will achieve a progressive reduction in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

Abengoa’s new HQ will allow the grouping, at a single location, of its leading-edge research and development activities. The Technological Center will house the units dedicated to Energy, the Environment, Telecommunications, Public Administration and Health, Traffic and Transport, Services and Industry. The centralization of all these activities will serve to establish a working environment that will foster creation, research and innovation.

Abengoa is a technological company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, environment and energy sectors. It is a listed company with treasury stock of 2,681 million euro (27/04/2007) and is present in more than seventy countries where it operates through its five Business Units: Solar, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technologies, and Industrial Engineering and Construction.
