Telvent to upgrade maritime traffic control systems at Mexico’s five main ports

Madrid, April 18, 2007 - Telvent GIT S.A. (Nasdaq: TLVT), the global real-time information technology company, has been contracted to maintain and upgrade the maritime traffic control systems at five of the Mexican Port Authority’s main ports. The overall contract value is approximately one million euro.

The wide range of functionalities of the systems implemented by Telvent to-date and which the technology company is to maintain and upgrade, will increase port traffic management efficiency and security at the ports of Lazaro Cardenas, Manzanillo, Progreso, Tampico, and Mazatlan. Among other functions, these systems will monitor detect and coordinate port entry and exit operations utilizing sensors and radar system that identify the ships, liners as well as merchants, while also detecting their velocity and direction. In this way, they will be able to monitor and analyze possible risks of ships colliding or running aground, and will thereby be able to anticipate required maneuvers and assist ships within the port and its proximities. In addition, these systems record all the information considered to be of value to the port in relation to events, climatology, hydrology, locations and movement of ships, and then transmit it to other users via the Internet/Intranet and generate the corresponding reports.

According to Telvent’s chairman and CEO, Manuel Sanchez Ortega, “This project strengthens our position in relation to Mexican ports, while also consolidating the company as the leader in this sector of the Mexican market”.

Telvent has developed similar projects for other ports worldwide such as Barcelona, in Spain. Of note among the most important projects it has executed in the region are the distribution operation centers for the electric utility Light, in Brazil, and the control systems for the Enersis Group, in Peru and Chile.
