Telvent has been awarded with a new project in Brazil for the starting up of a control and supervision system for 20 electrical substations

Madrid, October 14th, 2004 – Telvent, the Global RealTime IT company and subsidiary of Abengoa, has been awarded the project, in the tender of the National Operator of the Electrical Brazilian System (ONS), for the starting up of a turnkey project for the Control and Supervision of 20 substations belonging to the Brazilian company Furnas.

The awarded project, named SINOCOM (Improvement of the Observing and Controlling of the Interconnected National System), will allow to correctly monitor all the substations and hydraulic plants of Interconnected National System (SIN). Therefore with this project it will be achieved to operate and to manage adequately the electrical transport network, with tension levels up to 500 kV and to increase its safety, avoiding problems of blackout as the ones happened in 1999 and 2001.

The scope of the project comprises the installation and starting up of the intelligent equipments of control (RTUs) and all the necessary materials such as of control cables and communications, auxiliary relays, transducers, etc., as well as the services of engineering, executive project, adequacy of the process, data interconnection, integration, installation, assembly(montage), training and documentation, for the twenty Furnas's most important substations, in the conditions(states) of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasilia, Goiás, Mines Geráis and Parana.

According to Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent's chairman, “with this work, Telvent demonstrates its consolidated presence on the Brazilian market with the implementation, among others, of projects as emblematic as the System of Control and Protection for the substations of the Interconnection North - South (the major line of Brazil) or the Scheme of Emergency control (ECS), with a volume of business superior to 20 million euros”.
