Seville, October 11 , 2004. The Focus-Abengoa Foundation has celebrated last Saturday 9th, in its head offices of Hospital de los Venerable the show of the sponsors and collaborators of the Special Olympics National Games that this year are organized between the 9th and 12th of October in Seville.
This act was presided by Alfredo Sanchez Monteseirín, Mayor of the city, along with Gaizka Ortúzar, president of Special Olympics and the presidents of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation, Felipe and Javier Benjumea Llorente, whom have not hesitated to offer their head offices for the development of an event that pursues to recognize the labor of patronage that the sponsors and collaborators realize in the 7th Special Olympics's Spain National Games.
The Special Olympics National Games is an international movement without spirit of profit which its principal objective is to promote personal development and the integration of people with psychic disability. Founded in 1968 this movement promotes the habitual practice of specialized and adapted sports contemplating 24 sports disciplines.
Its philosophy is based on the idea that people with psychic disability can learn, enjoy and benefit from their active participation in individual sports as well as collective ones.
In Spain, the first great challenge was the accomplishment of the Special Olympics National Games of 1992 that were carried out in the cities of Barcelona, Vilanova and the Geltrú. After the success obtained in Barcelona, other summons were realized in Granollers in 1994, Reus in 1996 and Figueres in 2000.
All the performances reaffirmed the implication, joy and solidarity that these events wake up in people and the need to provide a meeting place and new participation fields, for this reason, this year the place chosen to celebrate the games has been the Sevillian capital.
Special Olympics relies on the recognition of the Olympic International Committee and it is present in 161 countries, grouping 1.500.000 sportsmen/sportswomen and 500.000 volunteers besides thousands of technical personnel and sympathizers in the whole world.
The Focus-Abengoa Foundation was created in 1982 as result of the cultural labor commenced in the year 1972 by Abengoa with the edition of the book "Sevillian Topics" and "Iconography of Seville". In that same period was created a fund of documents, books and engravings based on the Kingdom of Seville or of Sevillian authors. This initial cultural labor made the leaders of Abengoa see the importance of going beyond their essential technological functions with an activity that was redounding to benefit the society, this way was created the Foundation Fund of Culture of Seville.
The activities of the Foundation have been increasing, fulfilling its initial objective of promoting culture in its diverse artistic and scientific manifestations. The main protagonists in Focus-Abengoa's life have been the education, the painting, the restoration and the music, followed by the seminars, books and the engraving. Loyal to this objective, Educational Service of visits for students and other social groups have been organized as well as Closed Doors Visits and it relies on the help of audio guides in diverse specific languages of the sample. In this same line, every Sunday of the year a there is a free period of visiting opened to the public in evening schedule.
